Daily Devotions - Day 9: Ring of Kerry, Ireland

July 27, 2023

Ring of Kerry, Ireland

Some thoughts taken from Henri Nouwen and Francis of Assisi as we drove through some of the most wonderful and beautiful scenery of Ireland yesterday and ended with a visit to the Muckross House and gardens in one of four of Ireland's national parks.

A primary way God nourishes our souls with God's loving presence is through the beauty of nature. The face of the Lord shines on him in the sun. The moon and the stars remind us that God's love and light shine to use even in the dark. The Lord is speaking to us and warming us from the heavens, the Psalmist says (Psalm 19.1-6). The joy of the Lord comes to us in the splashing waves and playful animals! (Psalm 29.3,6) Jesus reassures us that our Father in the heavens always cares for the little sparrows and he cares for us (Matthew 6.26 and 10.29).

Francis of Assisi and Henri Nouwen draw our attention to love God by loving his creatures and creation. They remind us that we are part of the large family of God.

Prayer: Dear God, may we look around us with wonder. May we give glory to your creative presence. May we know we are intricately connected with all of your creation. Amen.
