Embracing the Art of Transformation
Scripture: John 14:16-26
Today, we traveled to the beautiful city of Florence. This city is rich in art and history. One of the places we visited was the Academia, an art museum where students come to learn. Here, we marveled at Michelangelo’s ‘David.’ It is an inspiring sculpture, and we were in awe of Michelangelo's talent. He once said, “Every block of stone has a sculpture in it, and the sculptor’s role is to find it.”
Michelangelo created his masterpieces by taking a block of marble and revealing what was inside. He used mallets and chisels, polishing one section at a time. This method was unique to him. Other sculptors often used a plaster model first. In one of the pictures, you can see a partially finished sculpture.
The Sculptor's Touch
This process mirrors our lives, doesn’t it? God sees the perfection within us. The Holy Spirit, which came after Jesus, works within us. As the hymn beautifully expresses, “Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.” The Spirit is continually at work, seeking to bring forth God’s perfected love within us.
The Journey of Faith
Our journey in Florence is not just about art; it’s about spiritual growth. Each experience we have is a chance to reflect on our faith. Just as Michelangelo revealed beauty from stone, God reveals His love within us. We are all works in progress, shaped by our experiences and the love we receive.
Finding Community
As we explore Florence, we also discover the importance of community. Just like the artists who gathered in the Academia, we too need a supportive environment. We need a place where we can grow together, share our stories, and uplift one another.
A Welcoming Spiritual Home
First United Methodist Church Kenosha aims to be that welcoming spiritual home for everyone. We want to help people grow in their faith and build a diverse, loving community that reflects God's inclusive message. Together, we can create a space where everyone feels valued and loved.
The Power of Connection
In our lives, connection is vital. It’s through our relationships that we experience God’s love most profoundly. Whether through family, friends, or our church community, these connections help us grow spiritually.
Conclusion: A Call to Action
As we reflect on our time in Florence, let’s remember the lessons we’ve learned. Let’s embrace the journey of transformation. Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to work within us, shaping us into vessels of God’s love. Together, we can build a community that reflects the beauty of God’s creation.
Prayer:
O loving God, continue to fall afresh on us. Continue to shape us in the perfection of your love. Amen.
