O LORD, You have searched me
and known me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
You understand my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down;
You are aware of all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
You know all about it, O LORD.
You hem me in behind and before;
You have laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
The end of our day brought a true gift to Bob and me. We were able to see our daughter (former au pair) who lives in Berlin and meet her daughters, Johanna and Freida, and meet her life partner Mateos. It was hard to walk them to the train station following dinner and let them go.
Several years ago, we took Katja to the Checkpoint Charlie museum. She had never been there, nor was the fall of the wall part of her school education. It was not included. Her eyes were wide -eyed to see a piece of her history.
Soren Kierkegaard teaches us that we are to know our truest selves and thereby we will know God and catch a glimpse of how fully God knows us. We can only do that when we know our histories and continue to have a curiosity of the present.
Prayer. Dear God, in this life journey may we continue to learn, discover and grow from the world in which we live. May we grow closer to you and neighbor as we come to know our truest selves. Amen.
