Daily Devotion Day 4

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:2-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Today was a long travel day, going from Innsbrook to Prague. We stopped in the UNESCO city of Regensburg. In the center of the city is the towering church of St. Peter’s Cathedral. The Episcopal cathedral has been under construction since the late 8th century. Inside of the stone church are beautiful, intricate stain-glass windows. Each of these windows tell a story of the Christian faith.

There are many thoughts about stained glass windows. They were a means of teaching and sharing the stories of the Bible and of Christian tradition. They are also of immense beauty which lead us to the awe and wonder of God.

God created our beautiful world and gave us each gifts to use and share in continuing the stewardship of our beautiful world and lives. The high vaulted ceilings lift us toward the heavens. The stained glass windows take the created beauty of humankind to fill our earthly souls and being as they share how we are part of God’s family and world.

Prayer. Creator God, give us open eyes today to see the wonder of your world and all you have given us through the gifts of others. Amen.
