First Church Attends UWF Assembly 2026 in Indianapolis

Kris Brown, Audrey Jackson, Teresa Snuffer and Ruth Walls attended Assembly 2026 this past weekend in Indianapolis. We learned many things about the work of United Women in Faith around the world. We met many women from across the United States and shared our local work with one another. We laughed. We cried. We sang. We learned that we are unstoppable and that our creator offers us an abundant life.

Never have any of us been in the presence of so many women who are determined to make a difference. It was a very powerful experience! We offer an invitation to the women of First Church and friend you choose to invite to join us and make our unit of United Women in Faith unstoppable!

The highlight of the Assembly was the session with Stacey Abrams and her mother the Rev. Carolyn Abrams. Above you see Assembly 2026 in blue which is a live link to a blog giving you information about Saturday's sessions in particular with Stacey and her mother.

Carolyn talked about the challenges she faced as a pastor in the Mississippi United Methodist Conference, but she also said those challenges provided a platform for people to begin to help people see what they needed to do.

“My hope is that we cease to have to count the women in leadership,” Stacey Abrams said, before sharing a story about Iceland, where women have held leadership positions for so long that a young boy asked if there would be a day when a man could be president.

“It shouldn’t be a question of can a man do it or can a woman do it. It should be who can do it, and that’s when women’s equality will become truly realized,” Stacey Abrams said.
